Ways to Prepare Yourself to Re-enter the Work Force

If you have been out of the workforce for any amount of time, you know that preparing to re-enter can feel intimidating. Here are a few tips that will help you get ready to head back to work.

Get Certifications Up to Date

If your employment requires some type of certification, you should certainly check to make sure everything is up to date. Certifications are an easily overlooked, extremely important aspect of your employment. Be sure to check on this well in advance of re-entering the workforce. If you need to get re-certified be sure to give yourself plenty of time for any classes, you need to take. This is a great opportunity to get re-acquainted with some of the skills and practices of your trade.

Do Your Homework

If you have been out of the work force for some time, make sure you take some time to research changes that could have taken place in your industry while you were not working. Technology has a way of changing things very quickly. Brushing up on these changes before applying for new work is a great way to give yourself the edge you need.

Create a New Resume

Do not rely on your old resume on this new journey. Creating an entirely new resume is a great way to get yourself excited about this experience. Do not forget that some life experiences you may have had while out of work could be viable resume material.

Update Your Wardrobe

Been spending a few years in sweats or yoga pants? It’s probably a good idea to update your wardrobe before heading out to that first interview. You will be surprised at how the right clothes will get you into the right mindset to work.
