How To Make Them Remember You
So you’re scheduled for an interview, and you’re nervous as a kitten. But never fear. With a little preparation and some brush up on best interview tactics, you’ll be ready to ace that interview and give them something to remember when it comes time to make the final hiring decision. Here are five great interviewing tips to get you started.
Dress for success
It may be an old cliche, but it still holds true today. Put your best foot forward appearance wise, even if the interview is for an entry-level job. It may turn out to be a laid back position, but don’t come to the interview like that.
Practice your delivery
Spend some time looking at yourself in the mirror while pretending to interact with the interviewer. Take note of any nervous tics or hand movements, or any other flaws in your delivery, and make a mental note to avoid them during the interview.
Use positive body language
What you do with your body during an interview can communicate both positive and negative impressions. Don’t keep your head down or hunch over, as this gives the impression of timidity and a lack of confidence. Speak clearly and distinctly, and maintain eye contact. Keep your feet flat on the floor, don’t cross your legs, and keep your hands at your sides, resisting the urge to use gestures to communicate.
Take the time to do some research on the company and the position you’re applying for. Your interviewer will be impressed that you’ve done your homework, and you’ll be better prepared to answer specific questions.
Keep a positive attitude
Remind yourself that you really are the best person for the job, with your own unique strengths and skills. You have something to offer this company, and you know it. And even if you don’t get this particular job, there’s always the next one.
A little preparation and a great attitude will ensure that you make a good impression every time.
